Tim Knox works a job that earns him little public notoriety. But without the director of football operations, Illinois football couldn't accomplish much or (literally) get anywhere.
And with Knox, the Illini have one of the best in the country. The fifth-year Illini staffer, who previously spent about a decade on the Western Michigan staff, earned the DFO of the Year award from FootballScoop.com, an award voted on by his peers in the industry.
Knox, a Cleveland native and big Cavaliers, Indians and Browns fan, has survived two head coaching changes at Illinois and was a key -- though behind-the-scenes -- player during the transitions. He joined Illini Inquirer publisher Jeremy Werner on ESPN Radio 93.5's "Tay and J Show" to discuss the transition, the award and his role in the program.
