Paul Szczesny Hearing From the Illini

Is Paul Szczesny this years Matt Roth? Szczesny is off to a super start in 2001 and he has the size and athletic ability to be a very good player on the next level.

LB/FB6-2 226 4.62 Niles, Illinois (Notre Dame)

Paul Szczesny had a tremendous junior season for the Dons and now he's off to another super start in 2001. Szczesny opened up his senior campaign with 19 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two caused fumbles and one interception. Last week, he had 200 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Szczesny is your typical hard-nosed, blue collar, Chicago Catholic League football player. He likes to hit, he's not afraid of any competition and he gives 110% on every play.

"Nebraska called last night," Szczesny said. "Coach (Jeff) Jamrog said they're going to recruit me as a fullback. I'm also getting calls from Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State, Florida, Wisconsin and Iowa.

If I had to pick some favorites right now they would be Michigan State, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Ohio State.

Szczesny doesn't have any offers yet but if he keeps up his current pace, he should have plenty of options come February.
