Mike Phair gave the good news to Torri Singletary in person. The Illinois defensive line coach extended a scholarship offer to the Baldwin (Fla.) Middle-School defensive end on Monday during an in-school visit.
"It feels good, knowing that a big school wants me," Singletary said.
"He said I'm really explosive, a guy who can really get after the quarterback and get some sacks," Singletary said.
Singletary also has offers from Tulane, Middle Tennessee and South Florida. He will visit Tulane this weekend.
Illinois came quick. The Illini coaches didn't start talking to him until last week.
"I didn't know really know anything about them until last week," Singletary said. "It feels good though to get a Big Ten offer, and it's something to look forward to."
Singletary will visit Illinois on Jan. 27.
"I'm just going to see the see the coaches and the players," Singletary said. "Basically I just want to feel comfortable at the school."
Singletary said he'll make his decision close to Signing Day.
"It's been a lot, but nothing I can't handle," Singletary said. "I'm going to go through my schools and pick up the one that's best for me."
