Florida TE Louis Dorsey commits to Illini

Illini secure commitment from Florida tight end Louis Dorsey during official visit

Illinois landed a commitment on Saturday from its top tight end target with Jacksonville (Fla.) Jean Ribault senior Louis Dorsey giving his word during an official visit to Champaign.

Dorsey chose the Illini over from Baylor, Central Florida and Indiana, among others.

After his sophomore season, Dorsey received early offers from programs like LSU, Miami and Florida State. But he did not play football his junior season to instead focus on basketball. Dorsey returned to football his senior season and again popped up on power-five radars. Illinois was the first to lock in an official visit and quickly locked up a commitment.

The Illini have several young tight end prospects, including sophomores Caleb Reams and Zarrian Holcombe (who played receiver last season) and redshirt freshmen Griffin Palmer and Andrew Trainer. But the Illini need amore dynamic target at the position, and Dorsey adds a dangerous receiving option with length and the frame to add a lot more strength.

Dorsey is the 19th commitment for the Illini in the Class of 2017 and the fourth Florida native in this class to commit  to Illinois, joining DE Owen Carney, WR Carmoni Green and RB Mike Epstein.

The Illini class now  ranks No. 33 in the country in the Scout.com team rankings and No. 8 in the Big Ten (third in the Big Ten West).
