Scout experts weigh in on Illini hire of Brad Underwood's college basketball and recruiting experts weigh in on Illinois hiring Oklahoma State coach Brad Underwood

Evan Daniels, director of basketball recruiting

"I think Illinois did a great job with their basketball coaching search. Brad Underwood is a heck of a coach and his success at Stephen F. Austin and in one year at Oklahoma State is notable.

"This will obviously be a new area of the country for Underwood, and he will need to establish himself in the Midwest from a recruiting standpoint. But he's had recruiting success at his other stops and I think he will do a great job at Illinois."

Josh Gershon, national recruiting analyst

"I think this was a really impressive hire for Oklahoma State and certainly one that on paper looks like a big win for the Illinois administration. Brad Underwood is a coach who gets the most out of his players and he is walking into a situation where he will be surrounded with local talent. The key for Underwood will obviously be in recruiting. If he can keep local kids home, secure the Illini 2017 class and pick his spots nationally, he's going to have a lot of success for Illinois."

Brian Snow, basketball recruiting analyst

"We don't have a long recruiting track record for Brad Underwood, so that is tough to answer. He didn't recruit any of his star players at SFA or Oklahoma State, and his 2017 recruiting class at Oklahoma State didn't 'wow' anybody. So while we don't know what he will be as a recruiter, as a coach he has proven he can maximize his talent. He runs good sets on offense, and is willing to adapt his style to his personnel.

"Most in the business really respect Underwood as a coach, now we will see what he is as a recruiter, and it will begin with trying to keep Illinois' talented 2017 class together."
