Tennessee QB Trey Lowe discusses receiving Illini offer during campus visit

Illinois widened its net for 2018 quarterbacks by offering Tennessee QB Trey Lowe during a campus visit

Woodrow "Trey" Lowe III received his first power-five offer during a visit to Illinois on Thursday.

"I was on a visit, and I sat down with Coach (Lovie) Smith," Lowe said. "Coach Smith said he wanted to offer me. I was excited because I like the direction the program is headed, and I really like the coaching staff."

The 6-foot-3 Bolivar (Tenn.) Central quarterback said Illinois was one of the most impressive visits he's had so far.

"The facilities were really nice," Lowe said. "We toured the campus, the facilities, and met with the coaching staff. It was right up there with Alabama and Mississippi State."

Lowe also spent time with Illinois offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee, who wants to add multiple dual-threat quarterbacks to his depth chart in the Class of 2018. McGee talked with Lowe about how he'd fit in his system and the success of some of his past quarterbacks, including Louisville quarterback and Heisman winner Lamar Jackson

"I'm impressed with what he's done with quarterbacks throughout his career," Lowe said.

Lowe also has offers from Memphis, Navy and Southern Miss. He will visit Hattiesburg this weekend.

What's Lowe looking for in a college program?

"I'm looking for good academics, a good atmosphere, and great relationship with my position coach," he said.
