Never a dull moment when it comes to recruiting for the Illini. On Wednesday, new coach Brad Underwood became aware of that in a shocking way when Jeremiah Tilmon posted to Instagram that he would be seeking a release from his letter of intent to Illinois.
Tilmon's announcement is a huge blow to a program looking to revive the basketball prowess of years past. After numerous, well-documented recruiting shortfalls, Tilmon's commitment and signing was a huge coup for former head coach John Groce, and would have given Underwood a building block for the future.
The news came after Tilmon seemingly reaffirmed his commitment just days before the news, and other Illini commits Javon Pickett, Trent Frazier, and Da'Monte Williams had already publicly confirmed their intent to stick with Illinois.
