Update: 5:40 p.m. Thursday
Illinois officially announced the hires of Chin Coleman and Stephen Gentry Thursday evening.
On Chin Coleman, Illini coach Brad Underwood said in a statement: "We're excited to bring Coach Ron 'Chin' Coleman on board. He is a terrific young coach who has worked hard to earn his way up the ranks. He has tremendous knowledge of the state of Illinois and city of Chicago, growing up and playing there, and then cutting his coaching teeth at the high school and grassroots level with the Mac Irvin Fire. He is a student of the game, a great teacher, and will be an outstanding addition to the University of Illinois basketball program and for our players."
On Gentry, Underwood said in a statement: "Stephen is one of the great basketball minds in the game. He played for an outstanding coach in Mark Few at Gonzaga, worked for Pat Riley with the Heat, and served in various roles at Texas A&M for Mark Turgeon and Billy Kennedy before joining us at Stephen F. Austin and continuing at Oklahoma State. Stephen is gifted with Xs and Os, extremely knowledgeable in the area of analytics, and has a wealth of contacts in the NBA."
