Bob Ligashesky didn't land the Class of 2017 punters to which he offered scholarships. So with the spring evaluation period open, the Illinois special teams coordinator is back at it, searching for a Class of 2018 punter.
One of Ligashesky's first visits was to Niles North punter Nick Mihalic on Tuesday.
"It went great," Mihalic told Illini Inquirer. "Great guy. Real honest with you. He said that they will be looking for a punter and it could be me. We talked about what the future holds for punting, and I will be attending the summer camp."
Mihalic is ranked the No. 4 punter in the Class of 2018 by Kohl's Kicking. The site says of Mihalic: "He continues to show a superior leg in his class with his punting. He hit multiple 50+ yard punts during the charting portion of camp. He needs to continue to work on controlling his leg power on field goals to gain more accuracy. Someone who has a D1 strength leg."
Illinois will get a closer look in June during its specialist camp.
"Love the Big Ten," Mihalic said. "Most Big Ten teams are interested in me."
