Bishop Miege (Kan.) forward Francesco Badocchi announced his commitment to Virginia on Sunday night.
The 6-foot-7 Italy native was one of the late risers in the Class of 2017. Badocchi had taken visits recently to Virginia and Illinois.
"It was good. They are two different environments," Badocchi told Illini Inquirer last week. "They were both amazing schools," Badocchi said. "Both had great campuses and great facilities. I was blown away by both of them."
He also showed high interest in Boise State, and Wichita State had shown recent interest as well.
Badocchi has length, athleticism and versatility. He posted 21 points and 13 rebounds in a state title win last month for Bishop Miege.
Badocchi's parents flew from their home in Milan, Italy, to visit the Illinois campus last week.
Even after signing Mark Smith last week, Illinois currently has three scholarships available for next season and has a huge need for size and athleticism in the front court.
