Clear Lake wide receiver Ja'kori Morgan discusses Illinois Fighting Illini offer

Illini join the fray for Texas wideout Ja'Kori Morgan by extending a scholarship offer on Monday

Ja'Kori Morgan had never met Andrew Hayes-Stoker until this week. But the Illinois wide receivers coach quickly showed Morgan, a 6-foot-2 Houston (Texas) Clear Lake receiver, his high level of affection.

"He came to my school and watched my film and was impressed about my size and speed," Morgan told Illini Inquirer. "And he felt like I would be a perfect fit at Illinois, so he offered me. I was shocked because Illinois is a huge school and I haven't had any contact with them until they came to my school. This offer means a lot, it's definitely one of my top schools now.'

Morgan said he had a positive initial impression of Hayes-Stoker and Illinois.

"From talking to him, he is cool," Morgan said. "He told me they have a great program and they need somebody like me. I have heard great things about Illinois, and my cousin got his masters from there and he says it a great place."

Illinois enters Morgan's recruitment a couple other schools already standing out.

"Houston (stands out) because they have a great coaching staff and the atmosphere is unbelievable," Morgan said. "Also, they have a good engineering program. And Kansas State, because they are in a big conference, and when I went down there the fans were great and also the atmosphere was great."

What's most important for Morgan when picking a program?

"Education is number one,"Morgan said. "I want to make sure whatever school I go to has a great engineering program, and also wherever I go, I want it to feel like home. As of now I don't have any visits planned, but that will change soon."
