Jamar Smith Commits to Illinois

Bruce Weber's has 2004 started off with a bang, first he received a commitment from TheInsider's Hoops No. 25 prospect in the Class of 2005, David Palmer. Then in his first appearance as a head coach in a Big Ten conference game, the Fighting Illini dominated the Ohio State Buckeyes 85-63. Luckily for Weber and Illinois fans, that was not the only piece of good news the Illini coach received that night. According to the Peoria Journal Star, Jamar Smith, a shooting guard from Peoria Richwoods, committed to Illinois last night.

Here is a brief snippet from the Peoria Journal Star article discussing Jamar Smith's commitment to Illinois.

Jamar Smith wasn't on the recruiting radar for long.

The rising junior from Richwoods gave Illinois coach Bruce Weber an oral commitment Wednesday afternoon, two days after receiving a scholarship offer from the 19th-ranked Illini.

"I love the U of I," the 6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect said. "Ever since I made my top-10 list, Illinois was always at the top. I went to their Midnight Madness and from that moment on, I knew I wanted to play there."

Smith's commitment came a day after the Illini received their first commitment from the recruiting class of 2005 in the person of 6-foot-8, 240-pound David Palmer from Antioch, Tenn.
