Tim Gorski Earns Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week

Illinois senior righthander Tim Gorski has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced today.Gorski earns the honor on the heels of his first career shutout, a 3-0 win over Michigan State, in the nightcap of the Saturday doubleheader at Illinois Field April 10.

Champaign, IL - Illinois senior righthander Tim Gorski has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced today.Gorski earns the honor on the heels of his first career shutout, a 3-0 win over Michigan State, in the nightcap of the Saturday doubleheader at Illinois Field April 10.

Gorski tossed a seven inning complete game four-hitter, striking out a career-best seven MSU batters. The Lindenhurst, Ill., native snapped MSU's 12-game win streak and handed the Spartans their first loss this year in Conference play after they had opened the season 6-0 in the Big Ten. Gorski, 2-0 overall with a 3.21 ERA over seven appearances and two starts, owns a team-best 2-0 record in the Big Ten. He has a 1.80 conference ERA, the lowest of the Illinois starters, and has 11 conference K's against only one walk in 15 innings of work in the Big Ten.

Gorski shares his honor with Michigan's Derek Feldkamp, who tossed a four-hit shutout against Iowa in a 6-0 Michigan win over the Hawkeyes Saturday. Gorski is the second Illini pitcher to earn Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors this season - Ted Rowe was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week March 2 after throwing five no-hit and seven one-hit innings in the season-opening win over Western Kentucky Feb. 27.

Gorski and his teammates return to action Tuesday afternoon at Bradley. Game time is set for 4 p.m. This weekend Illinois, 10-16 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten, travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a four-game Big Ten series against Michigan at Ray Fisher Stadium.
