Illini recruit David Palmer - Why Illinois?

<p>With all the hype surrounding recruiting it's easy to forget what you already have in the cupboard at home - and Tennessee native David Palmer is getting better each time out. Read here for my interview.

Sharon Palmer is the proud mother of David Palmer and knows her son made the right choice when he picked Illinois and Bruce Weber. "Illinois had the total package for David. They are great academically, the amount of exposure they get on TV is also great, and Coach Weber is a great basketball coach. We loved everything about them," said Sharon.

Right now Sharon feels that playing AAU basketball has really helped her son's game and confidence. "He's playing more aggressive and getting better each time out - we can see it."

Last year David had some health concerns but now that's behind him, "He's very healthy at this point. Right now we would like for him to become more of a leader so he can take that with him when he gets to Illinois." But before he comes to Illinois, David will play at Oak Hill next year. The entire set-up will be good for him short-term and long-term.

In the Big Ten you can never have enough big bodies. According to Mrs. Palmer her son has grown this year and is a legitimate 6'9" and may not be done. Sharon said she would like to see him get a lot stronger.

This past weekend David's AAU team will traveled to New Orleans to play, and Mrs. Palmer said they go with their son on these trips and she can tell how helpful this has been.
