It is the slow time of the year for the major sports at Illinois, but that does not mean the University of Illinois is not prominant in the sports news of the day. University of Illinois golf coach Mike Small is just four strokes off the leader in the Cialis Western Open, and he is tied for sixth place with two of the biggest names in golf, Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.

Mike made his second consecutive cut at the Western Open this year with a first two day score of 69-70. He finished Saturday's round with a 69 to place him within striking distance on the final day of the tournament. For the tournament Mike has one eagle, twelve birdies, thirty-three pars, seven bogies, and one double bogie. The highlight shot of the tournament so far for Small is definitely the hole in one he had Friday on the second hole.

If you are interested in following the Cialis Western Open and whether or not Mike will make a run up the leaderboard, it will be shown on your local ABC affiliate tomorrow afternoon. Since Small will probably be either paired up with Furyk or Tiger, he will probably get a lot of air time from the ABC cameras.

Mike Small was not the only Illini participating in the Western Open. Joe Affrunti, who recently completed his collegiate career at Illinois, missed the cut by two strokes.

Small's former Illini teammate Steve Stricker is tied for 54th-place after the end of Saturday's round at 2-over par.
