Championship Recap

Too much Greg Oden is usually a bad thing for opponents and Team Breakdown, like everyone else who tried, was unable to slow down the Spiece machine. Oden, the No. 1 prospect in America, played the considerable hype that follows him as he poured in a game-high 26 points. Of course defensively he was dominant. The Indy Heat did not lose a game at the Big Time.

2005 Checklist

Adrian Thomas, SF, Team Breakdown: There's an air of P.J. Tucker to his game, though he's not the same athlete Tucker is. When he's making his mid-range perimeter shots as he did in the quarters, you can see him sneaking into a high-major lineup. His recruitment is likely to wind up spanning schools from the Atlantic 10 to the Big East. He looks to be more comfortable as a small forward but has the physique to handle guarding the occasional power forward.

Alfred Aboya, C, Blessed IJN: For the second consecutive day we've seen him put together a mammoth first half only to taper off in the second. Aboya's approach to the game in the opening half is to play all out on every possession. Today he even made a 3-pointer. However, his dropoff in production begs the question: does he expend all of his energy early and run out of gas late? Regardless, he's shown significant improvement from last month's NBA Camp.

Raymond Murdock, SG, AZ Magic Blue: He earned his 29 points and got himself to the line 13 times. Here's a guy who slashed his way into the paint and found ways to make plays. He played well enough to get the attention of a lot of folks in the stands.

2006 Checklist

Mike Conley, PG, Spiece Indy Heat: There is no question that Oden is the best prospect on the team but the Indy Heat doesn't win this event with Conley providing his best Isaiah Thomas impersonation. If it was up to us, he would have taken home the MVP award for the effort he put forth on both ends of the floor. He's a steal machine and the way he shoots the basketball with either hand when needed is simply amazing. By the time he graduates high school he's got a chance to earn the reputation of one of the best floor generals to come along in quite some time.

Greg Oden, C, Spiece Indy Heat: There's not much you can say about him that hasn't already been discussed. He seems predetermined to be one of the great big men of his generation.

Daequan Cook, SG, Spiece Indy Heat: It's hard to imagine a player of his caliber getting lost in the shuffle but with stars on the roster, sometimes it happens. All Cook did in Vegas was lead his team in scoring over 9 games.

2007 Checklist

Edwin Rios, PG, Team Breakdown: It was quite a tournament for him. In the quarters it was his 3-pointer that tied the game and sent it into overtime. Then, with :26 seconds left he got a steal and a layin to provide the eventual winning margin. He had such a big time day shooting it that he banked in a half courter at the end of the first half of the title game. Rios was fairly magical during the playoffs and scored 50 points in his last two games. His shooting touch was exciting to watch.
