Illini Football Recruiting Update: Shaun Dewitty

Shaun Dewitty took time out of his weekend to discuss his recruitment with both Allen Wallace, the National Recruiting Editor for, and Josh Clark, Midlands Region Recruiting Analyst. Here is what he said about where he currently stands in his recruitment:

Colorado ATH Shawn Dewitty (6-1, 190, 4.4) denies a leader but favors Arizona St, Kansas St, UCLA, Illinois and Colorado as his top five faves. Arizona St, Illinois and Colorado have offered as well as Wyoming, Kansas and Cal.

"I won't know who my leader is in this whole process until I take my visits," says Dewitty, from Colorado Springs Doherty.

"I don't know much about Arizona St other than the fact that they're interested in me and want to get me over there for a visit to see what they're all about.

"Kansas St has a really good coaching staff and a really good football program--they seem family oriented, but I haven't seen them play in a game yet.

"I've met several of the coaches at UCLA but I haven't seen them play either. I don't really know much about their defense and their games don't really come on around here.

"Illinois has probably been recruiting me the hardest--I'll probably take an official visit there. They want me as a WR.

"I saw the game Colorado played against North Texas and it wasn't much of a game because Colorado just killed em'. But I can't think of anything that I really like about their offense or their defense."

Dewitty will officially visit Arizona St (10/23), Illinois, Kansas St (if offered) and UCLA (if offered)--no dates.
A position has not been identified quite yet for Shaun DeWitty, but looking at his frame and athleticism, it won't be hard for a program to place him somewhere.

"Most of the schools to this point are recruiting me either as a defensive back or possibly wide receiver," said DeWitty. "I don't really have a preference, but I kind of see defensive back as being my position right now."

To this point, Shaun has received offers from Colorado, Illinois, Arizona State, and Wyoming. In addition, he also received calls from Kansas State, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado State, and Oregon.

"I know of three schools that I'll be visiting, and those are Arizona State, Kansas State, and UCLA. I don't have any single favorite as I'm keeping all the schools in mind, but I will visit those three schools at some point after the season. Location won't really influence my decision."
