Indiana Lineman Thomas Bemenderfer

Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn interior lineman, Thomas Bemenderfer, is one of the top football prospects in the Hoosier State. We caught up with Bemenderfer as he and his Penn teammates get ready for a state play-off run. Several schools have offered Thomas a scholarship but he may not have to go very far from home to play his college football.

"I have scholarship offers from Northwestern, Illinois, Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio) and Ball State." Bemenderfer said.

"Notre Dame has been showing a lot of interest lately. They (Fighting Irish) have been calling me on a weekly basis and they're just telling me to be patient and that they are still recruiting me.

"I wouldn't say that I have a favorite right now, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to know which school is best for me after my official visits.

"My favorites are Northwestern, Notre Dame, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Duke, Michigan and Miami (Ohio).

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Bemenderfer could play offensive or defensive lineman at the next level. Thomas has lettered on the varsity since his freshman year. He has a brother that graduated from Notre Dame and another brother currently enrolled on the South Bend campus.

Bemenderfer was named all-state in 2003 as a defensive tackle but he's been playing only on the offensive side of the ball in 2004. Penn is 8-1 heading into play-off action this weekend.
