The ESPN / USA Today Coaches Poll was released on Thursday afternoon, and Illinois was ranked Number 5 in the nation by the coaches. The Illini received one of the 31 first place votes. Rounding out the top five in order was Kansas, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech.
Other Big Ten teams in the Top 25 are Michigan State at 10 and Wisconsin at 20. The only other Big Ten teams that received votes in the initial poll were Michigan and Purdue.
