Tampa, FL OL / TE William Bergen just returned from his official visit to South Carolina. In this update he provides Scout.com's National Recruiting Director Allen Wallace with his latest school list and a slight leader. Read more in this update to see where Illinois stands with this two-star player from Florida.

Tampa (Fla.) offensive lineman/tight end William Bergen (6-3, 250, 4.9, 2 stars) now says South Carolina (1/7 official trip) leads slightly over Pittsburgh (12/10), Iowa St, Illinois and Purdue. The Boilermakers have not offered.

"South Carolina has good lead over Pittsburgh because I've been to both of them, but I can't compare them to Iowa St yet," says Bergen, from Middleton.

"Everything about my trip to South Carolina was awesome. I got to talk a lot with the coaches there. And the new weight room they have is magnificent.

"The new coaching staff there has a lot of very experienced guys. I also got along very well with coach (Steve) Spurrier.

"I talked a lot with the academic advisors there. I plan on majoring in engineering and South Carolina has a great student-to -teacher ratio in that major.

"I could go in there as a tight end and maybe end up making a switch to center depending on how much weight I can gain.

"John Paul Gillis (offensive line) was my host. We went to the movies and hung out in the dorms. He introduced me to some of the other football players and his friends.

"The highlight of the trip was talking with coach Spurrier and meeting all the players. The only thing I'm not so happy with is the chance of playing center, but I'll do it. That was the only drawback.

"Before I left, I told the coaches that everything was great and that they're my leader. I just need to trip to Iowa St and let them know what's going on after that visit.

"I'll probably end up committing to either South Carolina or Iowa St after my trip to Iowa St. But I'll also trip to Illinois to complete this recruitment process and see the comparisons between these schools regarding their engineering programs.

"Coach (John) Hunt (offensive line) at South Carolina will also give me some great experience to get to the next level.

"Iowa St's engineering program is higher than South Carolina's. I think it's like #25 in the U.S. I like their younger program there. And they did very well in the Big 12. I think they were the runner up.

"I've heard they've got a beautiful campus and that their losing three tight ends, and the other one in the line-up is not doing too well. So I might be able to start there and that's a definite bonus.

"That's why a trip there will answer some of the questions I have."

Bergen will also officially visit Iowa St (1/14) and Illinois (1/21).

Final SR (8-4) stats: 2 catches/1 TD; 70+ pancakes.
