No Longer Committed to the Hawkeyes

Rahkeem Smith had given the Iowa Hawkeyes a verbal commitment over the summer, but as Signing Day approaches, he has decided to look elsewhere.

"It was just a conflict between two parties in which things didn't work out for him to become a Hawkeye," said Willowbrook head coach Mark Olson. "Rahkeem has decided to look around at other options, and Iowa has done the same, as well."

One of Smith's new options is the Fightin' Illini and new head coach Ron Zook. "He has a visit coming up with Illinois, and from talking to Coach Mallory, they like him as an outside linebacker. They like a lot of the same qualities that Iowa liked in his his ability to move, and just his raw athleticism overall. They have not offered a scholarship, yet, though," stated Olson.

Coach Olson also noted that they did contact the new Pittsburgh coaching staff this week about possible interest, and that Rahkeem has also heard from Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
