On December 31, 2004, Illinois played Cincinnati for the Las Vegas shoot-out. Little did most Illini fans know that Jared Carter had a real interest in the game. "Right now Illinois and Cincinnati are real close, but Florida St., Boston College and Western Kentucky round out my list," said Carter.
"Right now my team is doing pretty good. We're 10-1 on the season and my personal numbers are at 13 PPG, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks a game," Carter said.
Even the national media appears to be giving the Big Ten a raw deal when it comes to the quality of the conference. Carter likes the Big Ten. "Basketball is basketball. I don't have a visit set up for Illinois, but I will work on getting one with Coach Webster," added Carter.
"I watch the Illini on TV every chance I get these days. They are fun to watch play. I love the way they share the basketball and they really play as a team," he stated.
"Coach Webster has also come to one of my practices to see me. I couldn't talk to him, but I knew he was there looking at my game," said Carter.
