Ohio Native Richard Semrau - Illinois Have Ties

Richard Semrau likes what he sees in the #1 team in the nation, and recently he spoke with Kedric Prince of Illiniboard.com about his college future. Read here for details.

Richard Semrau is a 6-10 four-star recruit with the class of 2006 from Rocky River, Ohio. Most were sure that Kentucky was the leader for his services, but that's not the case. "Oh, no. Right now I have a list of five schools: Illinois, Wake Forest, Kentucky, UNC and Florida; but Illinois is right there," Semrau said. "Coach Webster is doing a great job with me; I'm so impressed with him. One of my goals this year is to get to a game," he said.

Semrau gave me some inside scoop: "Did you know that one of my coaches, Roosevelt Barnes, was coached by Coach Weber at Purdue? Coach is always telling me how good of a coach Weber is," Semrau said.

Semrau's team is off to a great start this season, with an 8-0 record and a 6-0 record in the conference. Semrau is scoring at 21.0 PPG, 3 rebounds and 3 block shots a game. "I really like to run the floor and we run a motion offense, somewhat similar to what Illinois runs. I like it a lot because I can step out and shoot the 15-18 foot range shot very well," added Semrau.

Semrau, like most Illinois recruits, is a very good student. "Right now I have a 3.1 GPA and scored a 23 on the ACT, but I wasn't too happy with my score. I'm taking it again; I know I can do a lot better," he said.

"Right now Coach Webster hasn't set a date for me to come to Champaign, but I will get there," he stressed.

Stay tuned, Illini fans - this is one to keep a close eye on.
