Brian Carlwell Eye on Illinois

Brian Carlwell is really taking a liking to what Bruce Weber is doing with the Illinois basketball team these days. Read here for the latest on this star from Proviso East High School in Illinois.

Brian Carlwell, a 6-10 center, knows who the best team in college basketball is right now. "Illinois is the best team in college basketball. Coach Weber is doing a great job with the Illinois program," Carlwell said. Illinois has really done a great job with marketing its program with its number one ranking. The two main guys right now that are doing most of the work for this big man is Assistant Coach Tracy Webster, but Bruce Weber liked what he saw as well, Carlwell thinks. "Coach Webster is the guy I talk to the most, but also Coach Weber has been around," added Carlwell.

"I really like what they do on offense. They play real fast and get up and down the court. They do a good job of keeping everyone involved in the offense, especially their bigs," Carlwell noted.

"Right now you have to say they have a really good coaching staff down there and they do a good job with the current players on the team," Carlwell stated.

Carlwell knows his game needs some work. "I don't care what my numbers are, I just try to go out and get better each game. My team is 14-3 and I think we are ranked in the top 12 in the state. If I could do one thing to really improve my game it would be more aggressive with my rebounding," said Carlwell.

This big man has a very nice list of schools to choose from: Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue, Marquette, Florida St. and Kansas. "Kansas hasn't really put a lot of effort with my recruitment, but I'd like to look at them," he added.

Carlwell is also a kid that's done his homework. "Illinois has not offered me. Florida St. has, but I always look at the scholarship situation and players at my positions at all the schools," Carlwell said.
