Joevan Keeping Options Open. Did Illinois Offer?

Last night's Kedric Prince spoke with Joevan Catron from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois. Joevan has a rather impressive list of colleges. Read here to see which schools are on that list and what big time programs have offered this Illinois native.

Joevan Catron, a 6-6 power forward that many call "tough as nails" around the basket, is really starting to look at some big time programs. "Right now I'm wide open. I really don't have a favorite school; I want to make sure I make the right decision," said Catron.

"I really don't want to make a list, but the schools I would like to visit would be UNC, Duke, Kansas and UConn. I've been to Illinois a couple times. Since I haven't taken the ACT test I can't make official visits, but once I do I will see what Illinois offers academically for me. I like what they're doing down there," he added.

Catron is not putting up All-American numbers, but you can bet this Class of 2006 Illinois player will get many phone calls. When I spoke with Catron he was watching the Kansas-Kansas St. game. Catron said he was very interested in KU but there hasn't been any contact from them according to his high school coach.

The list of schools mentioned earlier was a list that Catron liked, but he didn't hesitate to let me know that Illinois is the only school to extend an offer to him. "I like Illinois. They have a pretty good program going down there; I will visit them also," added Catron.

Catron's team is still involved in the Illinois High School State playoffs. Thornton will be back in action on Friday night. Tuesday night he scored 10 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and recorded 5 steals.

The class of 2006-07 will really be the mark for Head Coach Bruce Weber. By that time he will have had enough time to build more relationships throughout the state and keep the Illini in the Top 15 year-in and year-out.
