Zachery Henderson was one of the most impressive looking offensive line prospects at the Scout.com Combine in Jacksonville earlier this month, and the 6-7 and 248 pound lineman has picked up his first offer already.
"Illinois just offered me a scholarship," said Henderson. "I was ecstatic. Me and my coaches were going crazy. I've been getting letters from a bunch of schools. Indiana and Florida are sending me handwritten letters right now. I went to Florida's junior day and got to talk with Coach Madison about the program and the summer camps they are having. He said he would come to see me in May."
Florida wasn't the only school that Henderson checked out this spring.
"I also went to Georgia's spring game. I got a chance to walk out on the field during warm ups, but I didn't get to talk with Coach Richt while I was there."
Henderson has the frame to carry a lot more weight. He used to play tight end, but knew where his future was. "I could see the writing on the wall," Henderson said with a laugh. "I didn't give up a sack last year, and I graded out at 96%. My Top 5 right now is Florida, Georgia, LSU, Illinois, and North Carolina."
Illinois is the first school to offer him a scholarship, but it's a safe bet that they won't be the last.
