Jon Scheyer Will Visit Illinois on Thursday

Last night Illiniboard.com's Kedric Prince caught up with All-American guard from Glenbrook North in Illinois and Five-Star recruit Jon Scheyer for a few questions. Get inside to hear what this 6-6 shooting guard had to say.

Kedric:
Jon, are you glad this recruiting process is almost over?

Jon:
Yeah a little, but in a way I'm blessed and lucky because with all the problems that some people have, this isn't so bad. This has been very interesting for my family and me, but this kind of started for me before I got into high school.

Kedric:
Jon, can you tell me the pros to attend Duke and Illinois?

Jon:
For Illinois, I love Coach Weber. He's an honest and hard-working man. He does everything by the book. When the kids have their individual workouts, he's there. I like their system and I know it so well; I can see myself playing in that. As far as Duke goes, it all starts with tradition, legacy, Coach K and the players they bring in every year. Coach K has also had player of they year on his resume.

Kedric:
How much do you know about the players Illinois has coming in?

Jon:
I talk with Jamar all the time. He's great; he's always telling me I better go to Illinois or he's not going to talk to me anymore. He's joking about that part, but he talks about us rooming together and getting it done at Illinois. I've also spoken with Charles Jackson a couple times.

Kedric:
Jon, at what age did you know you had the talent to be this good?

Jon:
(with a laugh) Well Kedric, when I was five years old I dreamed about being Michael Jordan and winning a championship. I just wanted to be as good as he was.

Kedric:
Who is helping you with your recruiting?

Jon:
My family: Dad, Mom, sisters, and aunts and uncles. Also it's really hard for Coach Weber because he's Bruce's brother. He has been great through this entire situation. Of course he would like for me to attend Illinois for obvious reasons, but he does help just like all coaches do. Also I go to our AD for help from time to time and I also listen to Larry Butler. He will tell me the good and bad of some programs.

Kedric:
If you don't go to Illinois do you think fans will be tough on you?

Jon:
Yes I do, and I understand that. They should; they are loyal to the state school. When I go to Bulls games and Cubs games, people are always yelling at me what school I should go to. Most of them are Illinois fans. I do get some Duke fans, but hardly any Arizona fans.

Kedric:
Jon, this weekend I hear you're supposed to make an official visit to Illinois. Is that true, and if so when will you visit Duke?

Jon:
Yes, I plan to get to Illinois on Thursday and stay through Saturday. Right now I don't plan to take an official visit to Duke; I have been down there. Once I get back from Illinois and I'm still not clear on what I want to do, then I might take an official to Duke.

Kedric:
Jon, good luck to you and I hope this gets easier for you.

Jon:
Kedric, thanks. You were great. You can call me anytime and I hope to talk to you soon.
