Brian Carlwell Loved his Visit on Wednesday

Brian Carlwell, a 6-10 center from Proviso East High School in Illinois, recently visited Illinois along with guard Willie Kemp. Read here for details.

Brian Carlwell is ranked #37 by and is a four-star recruit. Carlwell has made it known that Illinois was his leader coming into this unofficial visit. Nothing has since changed. In fact, things look real strong for Head Coach Bruce Weber.

"I liked everything about Illinois: the school and campus were great, along with great facilities. I love the coaches down there so that's always been a plus and they have a great system in place," he stated.

During the scrimmage Carlwell said he held his own. It was tough going up against senior James Augustine, but he didn't back down. "Calvin Brock and freshman Chester Frazier were very impressive. Both guys are tying to prove they belong on the court. Frazier is going to be good," said Carlwell. Also of note - Carlwell was very impressed with the play of point guard Willie Kemp. "That kid can shoot the ball very well. My time there was great. It was just fun hanging out with the guys down there."

Overall, Carlwell felt he played well and playing against Augustine showed him how much work he needs to do to become a better player.

Will Carlwell be an Illini? "Right now I'm not planning on taking any other visits. I will sit down with my mother in a couple days and decide if I'm going to commit or not. But at this point I don't see a need to visit another school."

Carlwell did say he didn't know All-American point guard Sherron Collins of Chicago Crane very well, but if he comes to Illinois he will be giving him a call. "I know he's a great player and I would love to play in college with him," Carlwell said.

Head Coach Bruce Weber is making inroads to the kind of players he wants at Illinois. Now the fans just have to be patient and trust in the man that led last year's team to the most wins in school history. It was fun for all basketball fans to watch them play.

Other schools that Carlwell list are Michigan State and Florida State.
