"Right now, Illinois has got a slight edge over Notre Dame, UCLA, Nebraska and Iowa. I like Illinois right now because they're so close to home, I've seen the campus and I'm really familiar with the program. Coach (Ron) Zook is a real cool guy and he tells me the truth. He also has a good reputation behind him as a coach.
"I took an unofficial to Notre Dame on June 25 and it went okay. I had a pretty nice time out there. I really like their facilities and I also like coach (Bill) Lewis (defensive backs) a lot. He explains things nicely and patiently and he really knows what he's talking about," he said.
"I really don't know that much about UCLA or Nebraska. Those are two schools that I want to get out to for official visits to learn more about them. Both schools are recruiting me hard and they've shown a lot of interest in me so far.
"Iowa also seems to really want me there too and all that good stuff. They send me a lot of mail," said Brown.
"All these schools are saying that I could go in there and try to play wide receiver, but they're recruiting me more as a safety. That's cool with me because that's the position I want to play in college.
"I only want to take two to three official visits. I probably won't take them to either Illinois or Notre Dame at this point. After those official visits, I'll probably base my decision off that and commit to a program," he said.
"I've got great athleticism at the safety position. I read QBs well and I've got some good breaking speed on the ball. I need to work on just being more patient this season. Sometimes I have the tendency to anticipate a play too hard and miss something." Bench: 265/Vert Jump: 38"
Final JR (3-6) stats: 60 tackles/6 INTs-5 TDs/1 FR-TD; 21 receptions/4 TDs 3.0 GPA/19 ACT--retest undecided "I want to maybe take the test again for myself. Most of those schools accept my GPA and that score."
