Maryland DB Travon Bellamy

With Ron Zook looking to increase the team speed for the Illini on defense in this recruiting class, Ron Zook is looking all over the country, including Maryland where he is looking at three-star DB recruit Travon Bellamy. Find out in this update from's Don Callahan when Travon is planning on visiting Champaign. three-star recruit Travon Bellamy hasn't seen any additions to his scholarship offers list since August. However, with positive reviews of his senior football footage, Bellamy could see his drought turn into a flood.

"A lot of schools are talking about offering – they're waiting to see my senior film," said Bellamy. "I've spoken to UCLA, Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, West Virginia, Oregon, Notre Dame, and some other schools."

Bellamy, a 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Greenbelt (Md.) Roosevelt, currently holds offers from Illinois, Oregon State, North Carolina, and Kent State.

Back in early October, Bellamy made his lone unofficial visit to Happy Valley to watch former teammate Derrick Williams and Penn State easily beat Minnesota. Bellamy says he is done with unofficial trips and is in the process of working on his official visits schedule for after his senior season.

"I know I'm taking an official visit to Illinois probably one of the first couple of weeks of December," said Bellamy. "I'm still working on [scheduling] it. I haven't talked to anyone else about official visits, but I want to visit UCLA, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and probably Vanderbilt."

Bellamy denies having a leader, and doesn't plan to establish one until late December.

Despite being recruited for safety, Bellamy mans the cornerback position for Roosevelt High School where he has picked off three passes and made 40 tackles. On offense, Bellamy is used similar to how Penn State uses his former teammate – at both tailback and wide receiver. On the year, Bellamy has totaled 350 all-purpose yards, and five all-purpose touchdowns helping Roosevelt reach a 6-1 mark.
