Eric Gordon, Sr. spoke with Illiniboard.com's Kedric Prince today and his son's commitment and why so soon.
"We had Eric go to visit Illinois a few times to make sure about Illinois; he did take a couple other visits but it was nothing like Illinois. His friends told him he would be crazy not to attend Illinois. They were boys from his basketball team and they liked it themselves," said Gordon.
"We wanted to get this over with so we can concentrate on winning a state championship. Eric got along with all the coaches; Weber, Tracy Webster and Jay Price all did a great job with my son."
"Coach Weber has proven he can coach players to perform in the NBA. I knew Deron would do fine but I have to admit watching Luther play the point guard is truly amazing and a credit to Weber and how he can develop NBA players. I mean Luther looks really good out there and he's playing with such confidence."
Mr. Gordon also said every time his son visited Illinois the current players made his son feel like he was their teammate already.
"This was really hard for Eric because Duke was very, very disappointed in the news. They really wanted Eric to play for them, but for him this was the best decision. He knew where he wanted to play basketball," Gordon said.
Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., if things go as planned, Eric Gordon, Jr. plans to hold a press conference. If something changes Illiniboard.com will keep you updated.
Gordon is currently ranked as the nation's #1 shooting guard and the #10 best prospect in the country.
