Richard Semrau Update

Rich Semrau talks about his season to date and what he likes when he's watched the Illini play this year. Two games that come to mind were the UNC game and Oregon game just last weekend.

"Man, I knew they were going to be good, but not this good. They are just so much more aggressive than their opponents. I saw the North Carolina game and I thought well, maybe they played that hard because it was UNC, but then I saw UNC play Kentucky and it was so different. The Oregon game was a great win too because it was a road game," said Illini recruit Richard Semrau from Ohio.

Semrau was quick to point out that Head Coach Bruce Weber and his system has a lot to do with how hard his teams play and how well they play on the defensive end of the court.

All high school recruits want to know who they will be playing with in college and Semrau knows the Illini got a gem in shooting guard Eric Gordon from Indiana. "My dad showed me that he verbaled to Illinois; that's a big recruit for us," Semrau said.

For Semrau's team itself, they have blown out both teams so far. "The first game we won by 22 points and the second by 30. During the games I scored something like 14 and 15 in the other. My team hasn't had to pound the ball down low to me yet because of the margin of victories."

"This week will be a big one for me because I have three games, so I hope they will be more competitive. We play on different nights of the week," he added.

So much has been made of the recent commitment of Gordon recently it may be easy to forget about Semrau, but he will be a big part of the future for Illinois.

This weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana, I will be attending the Circle City Classic Challenge of Champions. This showcase event will host some of the nation's top preps, including two future Illini: Eric Gordon and Brian Carlwell, who is ranked by as the nation's 33rd best player in the class of 2007. Derrick Rose from Chicago, Illinois, who is a top target for Weber and company, will also be there. Stay tuned this weekend for pictures and updates as the games are played.
