Columbus Brookhaven's Jeff Cumberland, ranked as the No. 10 tight end prospect in the country by Scout.com, gave a quick update on where he stands in the recruiting process.
"It's going good," Cumberland said. "I'm looking at Illinois, Minnesota, USC for defense, Michigan State, West Virginia and LSU. All of them have offered."
Cumberland (6-6, 240, 4.47) is not sure where he stands with Ohio State.
"Yeah, they were recruiting me, but I don't know if they still are," he said.
Is there any possibility he would end up at OSU?
"I don't know," he said.
Cumberland is not in a hurry to make a decision. He could wait until signing day.
He is also the starting center on Brookhaven's basketball team and averages 16 points per game.
There's a chance Cumberland could decide to play basketball in college, although football is more likely.
"I'm not for sure," he said. "I could do one or the other, or I could do both."
Probably the only reason Ohio State has backed off of Cumberland is grade concerns. He is extremely athletic – he actually played some wide receiver at Brookhaven and helped lead the Bearcats to the 2004 Division II state championship. In 2005, Brookhaven moved up to D-I and fell short in the playoffs.
"My cume right now is a 2.45, and I'm waiting on my results from the SAT," Cumberland said.
