Brandon McGee Begins To Emerge

Brandon McGee had a strong showing at the Boo Williams Invitational. The Chicago forward lent his insights in his game and his recruitment last weekend in Hampton.

There's no better time to make your move if you're a college prospect than the spring. April means that college recruiters are going to be out in full force looking for guys like Brandon.

"Last year I had a pretty standout year playing with Sherron Collins," McGee said. "I averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds a game. We made it to the sectional final and I did good."

Good enough for Northern Illinois and Indiana State to offer him. Strong enough that Iowa and Illinois have him on their watch list but haven't offered. That's what the spring is for, taking interested schools and turning them into keen observers.

"Most want me to come visit and sending me text messages asking me questions," McGee said. "As of now, Northern Illinois and Indiana State really have offered. After the spring and summer (the rest) should be offering me then."

McGee said he really likes playing the wing and would like to transition to a small forward role but is comfortable wherever. "I was playing power forward, kind of a combo forward role."

No matter the position, the hard working forward demonstrated an aggressive style and a good feel for his position. He knows what the next few weeks mean to his stature with the colleges.

"It's real important. I want to transform myself to a 3 man in college and I'm going to have to work on my game real hard. The off season is the best time to play, playing against people you don't know and guarding outside people that are real good."
