"I can't even tell you all the schools that have offered me scholarships," Benn said. "I know it's over 50. Right now, I'd say I like Notre Dame, USC, Illinois, Florida State and Miami. I don't have a favorite; they're all about the same.
"I really like USC. I'm going out there in July. I like their style of offense. Plus, they're known for producing a lot of NFL players. I've talked to Coach (Todd) McNair a lot. I think he and Coach (Pete) Carroll are coming to my school tomorrow (5/11). I haven't been to the campus yet, but I'm really excited to see the school and the facilities.
"I'm looking at Notre Dame too," said the Dunbar High School blazer. "They have a great quarterback situation. I've talked to Jimmy Clausen a lot. I really like him. Coach (Charlie) Weis came out to my school last week and he said I'd be a big impact player for them…I would be able to start as a freshman.
"I love Illinois' offense. They throw the ball a lot. I've talked to Coach (Ron) Zook a lot. They are definitely a team that is up-and-coming. They are really building a strong team."
Benn said his childhood favorites were Florida State and Miami. "I'm really familiar with Florida State. I grew up watching them. They have always been a football powerhouse. I'm going to Tallahassee in June to visit the campus.
"I love Miami," Benn said. "I grew up loving them…it's all about the U. I'm going there in July too. I've been talking to the wide receivers coach, Coach (Marquis) Mosley , a lot. He told me that their depth is low at receiver and that I could come in and really help the team early."
Benn said visiting the schools and meeting the coaching staffs is very important to him. "A lot of my decision is going to be based on the stability of the coaching staff. I want to feel comfortable wherever I'm at. Also, the style of offense is really important to me.
"My strengths are definitely my size and my speed. My physical body features can be quite intimidating. I want to work on my route running and knowing when to change speeds."
Benn reports a 3.25 GPA/SAT date unset.
