Eric Gordon said he's heard from people that he could possibly be the best recruit to ever play at Illinois. Do you think that bothers Gordon? No; not at all. "Yes, I've heard that comment before and it's a nice thing to say, but there have been a lot of good players at Illinois. Right now I just have to keep working on my game," said Gordon. This past weekend Gordon's play wasn't up to par. "Last weekend wasn't one of my better performances, but I played ok." Gordon is still amazed at the love he receives from Illinois fans, no matter what state he plays in. "I think it's cool how the Illinois fans come out and support their basketball players. This weekend they were there to watch the games. I think that's cool to see," said Gordon.
Also this past weekend in the Adidas May Classic Gordon got the chance to play with a close friend - DeAndre Jordan. Jordan is a 6-10, 210-pounder from Episcopal H.S. in Bellaire, Texas who Gordon said has Illinois in his top three list of schools. "At first he didn't know much about Illinois. He knew I was going there; he came up for a visit to Indiana but we both like to play together. DeAndre is very talented. He's not as strong as Greg Oden, but skill-wise he's right there," Gordon said. But the list doesn't stop there for Gordon. If you don't know by now, Gordon and Illini recruit Derrick Rose are very close and Gordon still talks with Rose. "Oh yes, we talk and I know Illinois is right there and he knows how important the process is," Gordon added.
Most felt when Indiana hired Kelvin Sampson that Gordon would change his mind about Illinois. Not true. Actually things have really slowed for him. "Right now the only texts I get are from the Illinois coaches."
Gordon will take this weekend off, but in two weeks his Indiana team will travel to the Bob Gibbons camp in North Carolina.
Illinois fans – it's safe to say that Gordon will play for Head Coach Bruce Weber and he fully understand that playing with better players, the better the team and the players become.
