Big Man Compared to James Augustine

Toby Veal is an AAU teammate of Jerel Stephenson and both seem to be getting a lot of interest from the Illinois coaching staff recently. Curtis Wheeler is coaching Veal on the AAU circuits. Read here for more on this up and coming recruit.

Toby Veal may not be a name that the Illini faithful have heard much about, but the more Veal plays the better he becomes and coaches are taking notice. Already being an ‘08 recruit, Veal has a list of schools that are looking very hard at him: Illinois, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Miami.

Veal is a 6-7, 210 power forward from Savannah, Georgia, and is currently listed as a three-star recruit by Many feel that's sure to increase this upcoming season.

"Veal can run, jump, and handles the ball very well for his size says his high school coach, Keith Arrington. Coach Arrington compares him to a young James Augustine. During his high school games his coach allows him to handle the ball in the open court and lead the break," said Wheeler.

So many times it's easy to get caught up in how good these young men can play the game but according to Wheeler, Veal is a great kid and one coaches would love to be around. "Oh, he's a great kid; he's very coachable and never gets upset about anything. Most big guys sometimes get lost in the shuffle because they don't get the ball. Not him - he just keeps on playing," Wheeler added.

"Sometime this month Assistant Coach Tracy Webster may come to his high school to see him play," added Wheeler.

Look for more on Veal later this month and how things may be shaping up for Illinois.
