McCamey to Make Official

Not only will Illini fans be excited to see freshman quarterback Juice Williams, but there should be a number of high profile basketball recruits on campus this weekend as well. Read here for an update on current Illini recruit Demetri McCamey.

This weekend Chicago point guard Demetri McCamey from Westchester St. Joseph's High School will make his official visit to Illinois. "I'm just glad to be going down there. I got my itinerary so I know what time I get to see the school and what time we play," said McCamey.

McCamey has been to the campus but never had the chance to get the "royal" treatment that all student-athletes get when they arrive for official visits. McCamey is an Illinois native that has always had Illinois in his heart. He appears to be Head Coach Bruce Weber's kind of player: he's not in this for himself; it's about the team and what can make the team better.

Naturally Illini fans wonder or worry about the recruitment of shooting guard Eric Gordon these days and rightfully so. I think everyone including the mailman may have an opinion on Gordon, but McCamey doesn't appear to be worried at all. "He told me not to worry. He's coming to Illinois and that's it," McCamey said.

This weekend should bring in a number of recruits in both football and basketball. How many basketball recruits that will be on campus has yet to be set in stone, but McCamey is trying to bring a personal guest. "I've been talking to Darquavis Tucker a lot. I'm trying to get him to come down for a visit with me. I think he's been there two times already. Right now I think he's going to decide between Illinois and Miami, but I don't want to speak for him. He knows I want him to play with me at Illinois, so we'll see if he can make it this weekend," McCamey stated.

Even though this weekend is McCamey's official visit to Champaign, just last Wednesday Head Coach Bruce Weber and Tracey Webster made a visit to McCamey's home. "It went very well. Coach Webster is a great guy; I really like him. My mom really likes the coaches and all the things we talked about - she was happy. I'm really glad I'm going to play at Illinois. I love that motion offense. I can't wait to play in it," McCamey said.

This weekend I'll be in Champaign to cover the exciting Iowa and Illinois football game and to see the "Juice" play QB. Check back for a report on the recruits and interviews here at
