Random Thoughts

Recently a lot has gone on with the Illinois athletic basketball and football programs. Read here for a quick update.

*Saturday the men's basketball team lost to the Arizona Wildcats 84-72 in Phoenix. Don't call this a moral victory; this is a game Head Coach Bruce Weber and his staff could have and should have won. Glaring difference in the game - Arizona attempted thirty-seven free throws and Illinois just nine. By the time late January rolls around this will be a club to recon with.

*Warren Carter - how good would he be right now if he were a junior? When Carter was a freshman red-shirting was suggested for him. Carter is playing All Big Ten basketball right now and is slowly becoming the Illini's go-to man. Carter finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds - career highs for the Texas native.

*Weber is recruiting a few players that most do not know about, and going after them hard. Most pay attention to what stars the player comes in with. To Weber, that doesn't matter if you can play the game. One name to keep a very close eye on is Toby Veal, a 6-6 very athletic wing me. You can see his skill here at Illiniboard.com. Veal is from Savannah, Georgia and likes Illinois a lot.

*Illinois-Bound Class of 2010 Star Jereme Richmond, who some say could be a contender for the national high school player of the year, recorded 41 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots last week.

*Football for Illinois fans is over, but I'm sure that Head Coach Ron Zook will have the Illini in the top 3 for recruiting classes in the Big Ten and Top 25 nationally.

*New renovations have taken place in Memorial Stadium. Look for more talk about the possibility of making some changes to historic Assembly Hall as well.
