Josh Brent a four-star defensive tackle (6-3, 300), from Bloomington Central Catholic (Ill.) told InsideIllini.com that he will play for Ron Zook next season. "Yes I committed to Illinois today; it was time and the right fit for me for a number of reasons academically, socially and athletically," said Brent.
"I think a lot of kids from all across the country are taking notice of the improvement from Illinois, all the player's on the Florida team that's playing in the national title game are player's he recruited except the freshman, people just need to give Coach Zook time," Brent added.
It's not decided if Brent will red-shirt but according to Brent, Zook will leave that decision up to him. "I will do what's best for me and the team, and the best way I can develop as a player."
"Some people are surprised at how well he's doing but we're not, I've talked to a few of the guys that are coming like Martez Wilson we're ready to get this turned around," Brent said.
"Actually there has been no pressure to attend Illinois for me people have their opinions but let me make me own decision, I was offered scholarships from Ohio State and Wisconsin."
Brent said he's seen the new plans for the upgrade on the stadium, but most DI schools have them, they all continue to do it, but Illinois will be nice when it's done.
Brent plans to major in Business or Marketing when he arrives at Illinois.
