Verdell Jonesis considered one of the top juniors in the state of Illinois and trying to make that push on a national scene.
In a report done on Jones by National Recruiting Director Dave Telep, Verdell Jones, Sr., told Scout.com "The bottom line is that I've always told him is this thing is a marathon and not a sprint, There has to be consistent work done. We recognize that rest is just as important but we tell him he's got to be the best he can be. We're honest with him about where he is. I might be his worst critic but it's from a good standpoint so he can see things realistically."
Jones is being pursued by: DePaul, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Illinois, Xaiver, Southern Illinois and Louisville. According to Scout.com Jones has been offered by DePaul Southern Illinois and Xaiver.
Scout.com player evaluation: Long bodied guard who has grown and improved with each season. Can really pass the basketball. Outside shot needs improvement and he's going to be a young man who needs to get stronger and fill out his frame. Excellent guard prospect, especially if he continues to advance his body and perimeter shot. He's listed as a four-star recruit.
InsideIllini.com will get a first hand look at Jones as they travel to Moline (Ill.) game time is set for 7:30.
