Quinton Watkins gave Head Coach Bruce Weber a verbal on Saturday that he will play for the Fighting Illini next season. Watkins is a 6-3 wing that appears to be a shooter along with the skills to attack the rim.
At one time Watkins verbaled to USC, but felt he needed to look at other schools. One he really liked at that time was San Diego State, but now Watkins will play for Weber.
Scout.com's Biography on Watkins: One of the elite prospects in the west for 2007, Watkins has a great body and terrific athleticism. Lefty stroke needs to improve, but he's a very good slasher off the wing. Great defender when he puts his mind to it. A likely high major recruit.
InsideIllini.com will get more information from Watkins later this evening. He will join in with three other players next year all from the State of Illinois: Bill Cole, Mike Tisdale and Demetri McCamey.
