Quinton Watkins is Committed to Illinois

Quinton Watkins is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior guard out of Compton Dominguez (CA) plans to make some noise when he comes to Champaign. Last night InsideIllini.com spoke with Watkins for an update. Get inside.

Quinton Watkins still hasn't made a visit to Champaign (IL), a place he will call his home for the next four years, but once his senior campaign is over you can bet he will get his official visit and meet his future teammates.

"I haven't made it down there yet but after my season I will. Just a couple weeks ago Coach Price came out to see me, right after my verbal to them that was very nice to have him out here. He's really cool; he was giving me suggestions on what I can do to help my game and it worked. I can't wait to play for them. Coach Weber does a really good job with guards," said Watkins.

So far this season Watkins said he's averaging 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game but the playoffs are right around the corner. "I like this time of the year. My team usually does pretty well during the state tournament. I hope this year will be no different."

Once Watkins made his commitment he wasn't about to change his mind. "When I was a freshman and sophomore Arizona was really looking at me, but I haven't heard from them since. I did get offers from San Diego State, Nebraska, Nevada, Utah and Pepperdine but I was sold on Illinois and the Big Ten. All my friends tell me I better get a lot stronger because it's really good basketball out there. I try to watch them when they are on TV when I can," said Watkins.

Watkins is a member of the 2007 class and will be coming to Illinois to play shooting guard. The backcourt tandem of Watkins and Demetri McCamey should be very exciting to watch over the next four years. Both Watkins and McCamey have videos here at InsideIllini.com (Scout.com) for you to view.

According to Watkins, Coach Price was the main recruiter for his services. "Coach Price did a very good job with my recruitment. They are first class guys at Illinois. I can't wait to play there," said Watkins.
