"I want them to do well." –Verdell Jones

Verdell Jones high school season is over but his career certainly has just started. Jones is paying close attention to things over at Assembly Hall these days, read here at InsideIllini.com what Jones think of Illinois chances in the tournament.

Kedric:
Your team lost in the sectional tournament to Bloomington how did you play?

Verdell:
I did ok, I finished the game with 19 points but 15 of those came in the first half. They made some adjustments and started to double-team me a little more and that made it tough for me to score.

Kedric:
What are your plans now the high school season is over for you, and when do you plan to commit to a school?

Verdell:
I plan to play AAU hoops with my dad, Ft. Sooy No Limit and I will probably wait until sometime next year to commit I still have a lot of time.

Kedric:
Did Illinois offer you a scholarship yet, and have you made a visit recently?

Verdell:
No they haven't offered me one yet, but I think they will. They've been so busy with road games and the Big Ten Tournament they haven't been home much, but I think they will eventually.

Kedric:
You visited Iowa a couple weeks ago, how did that go for you?

Verdell:
It was really nice I liked the staff, campus, and the arena in Iowa City it's a nice atmosphere up there.

Kedric:
What are your thoughts on the Illini and the NCAA Tournament?

Verdell:
I was really hopping they got in, I picked them to go really far in the tournament, I was excited for them once I saw their name I text some of the coaches. They text me back with a few great comments it was cool, they play really good defense and they are going to beat Virginia Tech and upset a couple other teams I think.

Kedric:
Which Illini staff member is actively recruiting you?

Verdell:
I think they all are but the ones I talk to the most are McClain and Webster but Webster is the main guy.

Kedric:
Without naming a leader how much do you like Illinois?

Verdell:
I really, really like them and hope to get on campus with the players, they are a good team and they're very well coached.

Kedric:
Thanks Verdell for your time and good luck on the AAU circuits.

Verdell:
Thank you no problem sorry it took me awhile to get back with you.

Jones is listed here at Scout.com as the eighth best PG in the class of 2008.
