This Freshman Expects to Play

Not only is Illinois Head Coach Ron Zook aggressive, but it appears some of his recruits have the same mentality. Chicago Simeon's Martez Wilson has high hopes for the team next season and himself as an athlete. Read more on Wilson here at InsideIllini.com.

Martez Wilson took the time to give InsideIllini.com a brief update on what he's been up to since graduation. "I've been working out trying to get stronger. I don't have a personal trainer; I do it all on my own at the school. I graduate from school June 7th and June 12th I'm reporting to Illinois," said Wilson.

Wilson comes in ranked as the nation's #2 DT and a legit 5-start recruit that has big plans. "I expect to earn a starting spot this year even though I'm a freshman, and I think we will win 6 or 7 games this year, no less. We have the talent to do it and I know we will," Wilson said.

Just like all of Zook's recruits, he too heard about the story that took place in the New York Times newspaper. Wilson said he knew about the published story, but wasn't worried. "It didn't bother me one bit. People can pass judgment all the want. I wasn't worried about it because I never got anything or was offered anything. Coach Zook told me not to worry - he would take care of it," added Wilson.

Spring football is just around the corner and we will have updates for you here at InsideIllini.com. The talent level at Illinois is young but it's getting to the point that if Zook keeps this up, his expectations will get higher each year. Knowing him, I'm sure it's something he strives for.
