Illii Football Headed to St. Rita High School

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — For the first time in over three decades, the University of Illinois football team will head to Chicago to host the Chicago Spring Game, the second scrimmage of the spring season. The Illini will practice at St. Rita High School (7740 S. Western Ave.) on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. All members of the general public are encouraged to attend the free-admission event.

"With our stadium under construction, it prompted the idea of taking a scrimmage on the road," head coach Ron Zook said. "We are excited about getting up to Chicago and giving our fans an chance to come out and see the improvement our program has made this spring. We also have quite a few Chicago-area kids on the team who are looking forward to practicing in front of family and friends."

A pre-game gathering for Illini fans is scheduled for 11 a.m.- 1p.m. at Cork and Kerry, located at 10614 S. Western Ave. Members of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will be on hand to welcome Illinois alums and fans.

"We have over 150,000 alums living in the Chicago area, and we felt this was a great opportunity to bring the team and the excitement about the upcoming season directly to them," Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales, Chris Hanna said. "We encourage everyone to show their support for Illinois football and attend the Chicago Spring Game."
