Class 2008: Ken Gabriel Talks Illinois Hoops

Ken Gabriel comes to us from the Class of 2008 and North Carolina. This 6-8 power forward talks Illinois basketball with Get inside for more on his game and his thoughts on the Illini.

Ken Gabriel hales from Kings Mountain, NC and plays AAU basketball for the Charlotte Royals. This past weekend the Royals went 3-0 in pool play but appeared to struggle. "I played pretty good; not as well as I'd like to, but I did okay. Each time out I try and work on my game to get better. I like to work on my ball handling, post game, shooting, blocking shots," said Gabriel.

Why the Illini? "I really like Coach Tracy Webster. He's done a great job of showing the most interest in me. I haven't been up there for a visit and we haven't set one up yet, but I'm sure that's something that could happen," Gabriel added.

Gabriel has put together his list of schools. His top five that he likes the most and will most likely choose from are (in no particular order): Clemson, Illinois, Wake Forest, Miami and UNC Charlotte.

According to our rankings here at Gabriel is ranked as the 29th best power forward in the 2008 class and is consider a three-star recruit.

After talking with a number of recruits this past weekend there's been a common quote from all of them. No one likes to walk the ball up the court anymore - not the guards, the wings or the bigs. "One of the things that attracts me to Illinois is how they pushed the ball up the court in recent years. It's how the game should be played," Gabriel added.

We hope to find out when Gabriel makes a visit to Assembly Hall. When that happens we'll let you know more details.
