Report: Rodney Alexander Verbals

Rodney Alexander will play his last two remaining years at the University of Illinois. According to reports today, this top 20 prospect committed today. Read here for an update.

Rodney Alexander is a 6-7 small forward from Benton Harbor, MI (Benton Harbor HS) that ranks as the number one player at that position by NBADraft.net and one of the top 20 junior college players in the nation. The Champaign News-Gazette reported this morning that Alexander knew late last night he was going to be a Fighting Illini.

Here at InsideIllini.com we're trying to reach Rodney for an exclusive and in-depth interview.

Alexander played his basketball for Redlands Junior College in Oklahoma this past season, where he averaged 13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game. He was also 17 for 49 from the arc. His team finished the season with a 30-2 record and second in the NJCAA final season poll.

Weber's newest player chose the Illini over the likes of Butler, Indiana (which he visited recently), Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

In a previous interview on April 3, 2007 with Scout.com's Sooners Illustrated's James Hale, Alexander was asked what he liked about Illinois and he answered, "I like the coach (Bruce Weber). I like the players a lot."

Alexander puts the final pieces together of a good class by Weber. He certainly filled the needs for the upcoming season for the Illini. Alexander will join Quinton Watkins, a 6-4 shooting guard from Compton, California; Demetri McCamey, a 6-3 point guard from St. Joseph's in Chicago, Illinois; Mike Tisdale, a 7-0 center from Riverton, Illinois; and Bill Cole, a 6-10 forward from Peoria, Illinois.

We will have more information from Rodney Alexander later this evening or first thing tomorrow.
