One of the top running back prospects in the Midwest has given the University of Illinois his verbal commitment.
Pierre Thomas, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound, running back from Lansing (Ill.) T.F. South was one of the first to pledge the Illini in 2002.
We caught up with T.F. South head coach Tom Padgen and asked him what the Illinois fans can expect from Thomas in the future.
"They (Illinois) can expect a dynamic runner that's explosive." Padgen said.
"Pierre rushed for 2,000 yards and 31 touchdowns last year and he should break that mark this year.
"He (Thomas) never gives an inch and he's always fighting for the extra yard. Pierre is the hardest worker that I've ever coached."
Pierre Thomas is a Midwest "Top 100" football prospect. He and fellow Illini verbal commitment A.J. Johnson (Bolingbrook, Illinois) should provide stiff competition for the running backs already on the Illini roster in 2003.
