Meacham and Semrau Join Summer Tour

Champaign, Ill. - A combination of 10 NCAA Div. I basketball players from across the United States will come together with Athletes in Action to embark on a one-week tour this August against professional teams in Germany. This is one of 11 AIA international touring men's and women's basketball teams competing this summer.

Junior Trent Meacham and redshirt freshman Richard Semrau will represent the Illini on the tour. Joining the UI duo on the squad are Tweety Carter (Baylor), Stuart Creason (Colorado State), Chris Kramer (Purdue), Alex McLean (Liberty), Brandon McPherson (Valparaiso), Mitch Platt (Oregon), Anthony Smith (Liberty) and Dwight Thorne II (Colorado). Coaching the team will be Tim Maloney (associate head coach at Massachusetts) and Jason Hawkins (assistant coach at Valparaiso).

The team will have a three-day training camp August 9-11 at Valparaiso University before departing August 12 to Berlin, Germany to play professional teams. The AIA team will play six games August 13-18 and return August 19. The goals of this tour are to provide a rich cross-cultural experience for each team member and for team members to grow in their personal faith. Athletes In Action is a Christian sports organization.
